What are feminized seeds?

The simple explanation is "specially" bred seeds that will grow into a female plant. If we go into technicalities, feminized seeds are created by stimulating female plants into creating pollen that contains only X chromosomes. The X chromosomes are female genetics, and when we pollinate another female plant with this special pollen, the plant will produce feminized seeds.

This sounds easy, but in practice, it takes years to stabilize a strain with desired flavors, yields, and effects. The female plants we use to create the pollen with are called mother plants (more specifically, feminized pollen donors). Without love and care, the mother plant will be unstable, and that will lead to low-quality seeds that have a higher chance of becoming a hermaphrodite. And "hermies" are something that we want to avoid; they have both female and male traits, which will result in very low-quality buds. Every Nirvana Seed represents years of careful selective breeding. To deliver you the most consistent and high-quality seeds possible for a bountiful grow!

Why does it matter?

You might question why this matters at all. Well, it certainly matters. Because when a male and female plant are close to each other, you will risk pollinating your feminized plants. Pollinated female plants will stop focusing on growing buds and will start producing seeds instead. This will result in low-quality buds with less potency, smaller yields, and seeded buds. In short, male seeds can ruin your grow!

Are feminized seeds still natural?

Definitely, feminized seeds are definitely still natural. Rather than genetically modifying the plants, what we are doing is more akin to guiding the plants into producing feminized seeds only.

Nirvana Seeds come from natural cannabis plants. We do not modify the DNA, and there is no lab splicing involved.  Cannabis plants can naturally have both male and female traits when stressed. What we do is simply create an environment that triggers the natural responses from cannabis plants.

You can expect natural seeds with natural behaviors. Nirvana seeds will grow and flower the same and are genetically the same as regular counterparts. Of course, with the added benefit of feminized seeds.

Should I pick feminized seeds?

We definitely recommend feminized seeds. And not only we, but through the years we have noticed that most, if not all, of our growers shifted to growing feminized seeds instead of regular seeds. Regular seeds have become a more niche thing for growers who like to experiment and create their own personal strain.

As for feminized seeds, they have become the go-to for growers around the world. Feminized seeds are predictable; you know you will be able to harvest beautiful buds at the end of your grow. With regulars, you always have the chance of growing a male plant, which does not yield quality buds. With the added unnecessary risk of ruining your female plant by pollination, for many growers, regular seeds are just not worth it anymore.
